Alvin Plantinga's Free Will Defense Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Alvin Plantinga's Free Will Defense - Essay Example Platinga demonstrates how theistic belief, about God being omnipotent and wholly good, is logically consistent. Permitting evil means creating a world with moral good, as well as, moral evil. This is an argument that answers the questions raised by different philosophers, or defends itself against some philosophers, with contradictory ideas about the existence of evil and the role of God. In the logical problem of evil, it is indicated that there are different possibilities to the existence of evil. Some of these mentioned are that God: can eliminate evil but he is adamant, wants to eliminate evil but is incapable of eliminating it, does not wish to eliminate evil and cannot eliminate evil, and wants to eliminate evil and can eliminate evil (Zagzebski, p. 146). Platinga gives an argument that creatures are given free will to do moral good and evil, and God had a valid reason for it. This paper is an explanation of Platingaââ¬â¢s argument of ââ¬Ëfree willââ¬â¢. In Platingaââ¬â¢s Free Will Defense, he has made certain definitions and distinctions. Being free is defined with respect to an action. Being free with respect to a certain action means that the individual has the free will to refrain from performing it or to perform it. There are no causal laws or antecedent conditions that predetermine the personââ¬â¢s choice of action. Free will means the person has the power to decide to act or not to act. A second definition or distinction is about the action. An action is morally significant if it is right to perform the action and wrong to refrain from it or vice versa. Significantly free means a person is free with respect to a morally significant action. There is also a distinction between naturally evil and morally evil. Moral evil is that which results from free human activity while natural evil is any other kind of evil (Plantinga, p, 30). Based on these distinctions and definitions, Platinga notes that a world is more valuable when it contains creatures with significant freedom than when it has creatures with no freedom at all. In their freedom, the creatures should be able to perform more good than evil actions. Platinga argues that there is no freedom if people are created with the freedom, but their actions are predetermined by God. According to him, God has the capability of creating creatures that are significantly free, but has chosen to give them the freedom to act on their own always. God cannot cause or determine the creatures to do only what is right. Freedom according to Platinga means being given a choice. A choice has to exist between two or more variables. In this case, the variables are good and evil, or moral good and moral evil. If God creates creatures with free will, but determines what their actions will be, there is no freedom at all. Free will creatures are given the will to choose from moral evil and moral good, and to act according to what they think is right or wrong. His argument, th erefore, is that God cannot create creatures capable of moral good without giving the same creatures the capability of moral evil if they are to have free will. In exercising their freedom, some of Godââ¬â¢s creatures went wrong in exercising their freedom. This does not mean that God is not omnipotent and not good. It means that he has given the free will with no determinations of what actions the creatures should engage in (Plantinga, p, 30). Free will defenders believe that or find propositions that are consistent with; God is omnipotent, God is omniscient, and is wholly good. They also believe that alongside the existence of these characteristics of God, there is still evil. God has very good reasons for creating both moral

Problems with the pre-admission call center Case Study
Problems with the pre-admission call center - Case Study Example The pre-admission procedure is an extremely crucial process in any infirmary. It is a crucial procedure because it provides the concerned doctor the chance to inform the infirmary of a patientââ¬â¢s surgery or appointment. It notifies of the patientââ¬â¢s admission date and the length of stay in the hospital. It is a prior encounter with a physician who elucidates the entire process, addresses any queries with regard to the treatment. It ensures that the ailing individual approves of his or her treatment at the infirmary. In this procedure, it is vital to confirm any individual details, Medicare or health coverage information, entitlement information and any physicianââ¬â¢s information provided. The pre-admission call office has professionals, who have the responsibility to contact patients prior to admission to assess their medical accounts, confer their discharge needs, and respond to any queries that the ailing individuals might have, as well as offer directions with rega rd to the day of admittance to the infirmary. The nurse at the centre also ensures that the patient gets an appropriate appointment time for his or her respective medical procedure. In this same process, the patient might be required to get blood testing, x-rays, sessions with a physiotherapist and a dialogue with regard to discharge time. The pre-admission phase creates a chance for medical personnel to relate with the patients. This is usually to reveal the caring aspect of the infirmary via personalized, patient centric treatment. It provides an opportune time to foster ailing individualââ¬â¢s health literacy and their comprehension of care procedures so as to avert any needless readmissions (Forbes, p.1). A vital requirement to averting these readmissions is medical resolutions. This is where accessible and potential contra-intervening medical therapies are established and remediated. Persons with the least health literacy, low agreement profiles, and intricate regimens are m ost in danger. The doctorââ¬â¢s failure to recognize potential medication problems early is a patient security subject that can rapidly corrode a patientââ¬â¢s assurance in the infirmary. This can put patient in jeopardy. In addition, the pre-admission procedure assists reveal risks that can influence treatment and describe post release follow up treatments. This, consequently, enhances patient gratification issue. This process also assists in enhancing post discharge personal management. This is mainly to thwart expenses and perils related to needless re-admissions. The pre-admission process makes certain that all patientsââ¬â¢ needs have been established. It also ensures that a patient comprehends everything that is going to occur and the related peril. It is a significant procedure since the patientââ¬â¢s as well as the infirmaryââ¬â¢s resources is planned properly. An inclusive process assists in developing a positive initial impression on the client. The pre-admi ssion procedure ensures efficient resource utilization and advances patient gratification and security. Fostering post release process all through the pre-admission procedure can make sure that a patient has an affirmative last impression. This also ensures that the patient has adequate information required for a secure recuperation. The significant objective of the pre-admission procedure is education of patients. This is prior to treatment, as well as post discharge supervision. This process also aids in developing a checklist of requirements for varied patients. This helps in averting issues that emerge from incoherent additions or deletions in drug utilization. It also assists in directing the patient to the correct healthcare physiotherapist. It also ensures establishment of accountability as well as developing patientsââ¬â¢ alerts utilizing a transitional treatment command office. Furthermore, it assists in the scheduling of treatment dates as well as making sure post disch arge best procedures are designed

Winston Churchill :: Biography
Winston Churchill One of the most famous and loved men on the allied power side was Winston Churchill. Winston Churchillââ¬â¢s full name was Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. He was born at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England on November 30, 1874. Churchill was the oldest son. His father was Lord Randolph Churchill and Winston, like his father, was British. Mr. Churchill was a statesman, a soldier, an author, and a journalist but the one job that he did best and was most important was Prime Minister. A Prime Minister was very responsible for war aspects, or things that go on during the war. Churchill, being Prime Minister in 1940, was good for England because he was a very confident person so he kept his peopleââ¬â¢s hopes up. Winston made sure that military aid on the allied power side was secure. In return, he got moral support from the United States. Churchill traveled around the world a lot to meet with other leaders and befriended them. Together they made up a strategy that defeated Adolf Hitler. By the end of World War II Churchill and the allied powers had defeated the axis powers. When people saw Churchill walk down the street they felt confident. This is because they saw their hero, Winston Churchill, walk with a big cigar in his mouth. But the one thing that they really liked about him was that he made his hands in the shape of a V for victory. Winston was Prime Minister from 1940 to 1945. The Labour party defeated him in 1945. The party stayed in power until 1951. This was when Winston Churchill regained power again. He stayed in power until April 1955, when ill health came his way and forced him to resign.

Beauty
What is Beauty? Everyone looks at beauty differently and everyone has his or her own definition of it. In todayââ¬â¢s society beauty is seen as a personââ¬â¢s psychical appearance, what clothes they wear, their hair and make-up, and even the shape of their body. The World English Dictionaryââ¬â¢s first definition states beauty as ââ¬Å"the combination of all qualities of a person or thing that delights the senses and pleases the mind. â⬠(ââ¬Å"Beautyâ⬠N. pag. ) I agree with this definition because I believe beauty goes deeper than the appearance of a person that it is the combination of all a personââ¬â¢s qualities.Too many people do not see beauty for what it really is but only see it as a psychical quality. Beauty is more than skin deep; beauty is kindness, gratefulness, courage, unselfish love, and happiness. A personââ¬â¢s beauty is not something that should be measured on how they appear physically, but is something that should be measured on their ki ndness. Peopleââ¬â¢s kindness can show them for who they really are showing their true beauty. To be kind is to be generous and caring of others. It is being able to help others when they need it, to be respectful of everyone, and to show fairness no matter what.Kindness is beauty because kindness is a person showing respect for the feelings of another individual. It is to be aware of their actions and how their actions are affecting others. They treat others the way they hope to be treated. Ninon de L'Enclos said ââ¬Å"That which is striking and beautiful is not always good, but that which is good is always beautifulâ⬠(N. pag). I believe this is how people should describe and see beauty today because beauty should be seen not how people see each other, but as how people treat one other.Beauty is not the type or style of clothes a person wears, but beauty is being grateful. It is people being thankful and appreciative. For their family and friends, for the stuff their pare nts provide for them. Gratefulness is beauty because people who are grateful acknowledge what they have been given in life and are not greedy for more but are happy for what they have. people who are grateful have beauty because they are not unappreciative or ungrateful but they say thank you when they receive a gift or service no matter how little or small it was. This is beauty because eople should look at beauty as the actions of others whether they are appreciative or selfish. Beauty is not dependent on the shape of a personââ¬â¢s body, but it is the unselfish love they have and share to others. People who are able to love everyone in their life without judging or mistreating others have beauty. Unselfish love is being able to love people for who they are and not strive to change them but to accept them for everything they are. Unselfish love is being able to put someone elseââ¬â¢s needs first, and to care for others no matter who they are.This is beauty because people sho uld see beauty should be seen on the love that people have on one other. It can be a difficult task to have unselfish love and not many people today can say they are able to go without judging others or being hurtful. Beauty is having courage. Beauty is people having the courage to stand up for what they believe in no matter what other say or do. It is people being able to look past what others want them to do or think and to do what is right for themselves and others.It is being able to go for their goals no matter how frightening the journey looks. Courage is beauty because people with courage are able to stand up for themselves, to go for their dreams, and to do the right thing no matter what. People should see this as beauty because courage is nothing small it takes a strong person to have courage in life. Beauty is how a personââ¬â¢s hair and makeup looks, but it is a personââ¬â¢s happiness. people with happiness are able to show joy and satisfaction in their lives. They are over all happy not only with themselves but also with life.Happiness is beauty because to be happy is to have the feeling of delightfulness and contentment. When people have happiness that does not mean that they will never get sad or down occasionally, but it means that they will be able to push past the down times in their life and remember that tomorrow is always a new day. A person with happiness will remember to keep their head up because they know things will get better. Everyone has his or her own definitions of beauty. Some people see beauty as the appearance of a person.They think that beauty is defined as the type or style of clothes they have, or how their hair and makeup look, and some even define beauty as the shape of a personââ¬â¢s body. However, some people are more like me and define beauty by what is on the inside. Some believe beauty comes from a personââ¬â¢s personality or their characteristics. As Kevyn Aucoin says, ââ¬Å"beauty has a lot to do with c haracter. â⬠(N. pag. ). I agree with Kevyn Aucoin, I do not think that beauty should be looked at as the physical appearance of a person. I believe beauty is a personââ¬â¢s kindness, gratefulness, courage, unselfish love, and their happiness.

In ââ¬Å"The Pageâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Breadâ⬠and how does Margaret Atwood use everyday objects to make readers question their own innocence and experience? What is the significance of this? Margaret Atwoodââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢ The Page and Bread are two short stories that are both based around everyday objects. Constantly questioning the reader, the stories do not have a set idea, leading to different interpretations. Yet innocence is one thing that is present throughout both. The development of the stories begins with something being innocent to the end where the reader is questioned about the extent of that innocence. In reality that innocence is the reader itself, making them question their own innocence through the objects. Her use of postmodernism, unique structure andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Description is used regularly throughout about the page, but it seems that it is describing a whole lot of nothing. Darkness wells through.â⬠Atwood uses the blank page as a way to show what innocence is. A page can be made into a beautiful piece of art or a great story, but one small rip and it can never be the same. Bread seems to be a very traditional structured story, but doesnââ¬â¢t tell a story, instead makes the readers imagine the scenes being described making them the as the protagonist. Atwood, again used an everyday object like, bread as the center point of the story. The story doesnââ¬â¢t question the readerââ¬â¢s idea of innocent, but more so how innocent they think they are. The first first two sentences ââ¬Å"Imagine a piece of bread. You donââ¬â¢t have to imagine it, its right thereâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ shows that the bread is something the readers wouldnââ¬â¢t think about, something they would take for granted.
